Course Details
This course is for students entering 8th through 10th grade in the upcoming Fall.
This course requires some backpacking experience or some physical preparedness as it is “backcountry”. In Alaska, that means rugged, off-trail terrain, mud, creeks, and mountains—all while carrying a pack.

What you’ll learn
Essential outdoor skills like reading a map and building a fire. But this is no ordinary camp! Teens here push themselves with challenging activities like working within a team towards common goals, planning a backpacking trip and learning to climb vertical walls of ice.

What to expect:
This course is perfect for students entering 8th through 10th grade who have some prior outdoor experience—whether from a previous MOI course, family outings, or other programs. If you’re comfortable packing your own daypack and eager to spend days exploring nature, this adventure is for you!
We start at our Base Camp reviewing and learning fundamental outdoor skills to prepare for ice climbing on a glacier and an epic backpacking trip in the Talkeetna Mountains.
Our experienced instructors and your fellow adventurers will support you every step of the way, fostering a community where everyone encourages each other to succeed.
